Curated by HJM President Richard Hu, The Architectural Object asks sculptors and potters to explore architecture as it applies to the clay object. The word architecture comes from the Greek words for “chief/principal” and “artisan/builder”. The definition traditionally encompasses the process of planning, designing and constructing buildings. In current vernacular, the term has broadened to encompass the apparent architecture of complex structures like biological cells to the planning and organization of computer software. This exhibition explores how each artist defines the term—either through direct inspiration, process, or metaphor.
